Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), a 2020 presidential contender, voiced support for switching Columbus Day to Indigenous Peoples’ Day, long an agenda item for the far Left.

When confronted about whether or not she’d support renaming the federal holiday, Harris excitedly responded, “Count me in on support.”

Aside from throwing a bone to her radical base, she offered further comments, which stoked tensions along racial lines for seemingly no reason at all.

Harris pivoted to her own efforts in the Senate to make lynching a federal crime as evidence that she’d support such a move, noting that America is “the scene of a crime” when it comes to “institutionalized racism.”

Speaking of the anti-lynching bill and why it took until 2019 to pass, Harris claimed, “People did not want to deal and accept, and most importantly, admit that we are the scene of a crime when it comes to what we did with slavery and Jim Crow and institutionalized racism in this country.”

“Similarly, when it comes to indigenous Americans, the indigenous people, there is a lot of work that we still have to do,” she said, coming full circle on two things that have little in common.

Tip of the hat … Disparaging the history behind Christopher Columbus is one of those progressive items that voters care very little about, but will help Harris garner support from the handful that does. It’s a street cred issue of sorts.

The man who discovered the Americas for the Spanish, kicked off settlements, and brought together two worlds by beginning the process that led to the founding of this country is thoroughly hated by extremists on the Left.

Several liberal strongholds already refer to Columbus Day as Indigenous People’s Day, which does little more than to provide them with a temporary, warm, fuzzy feeling in their bellies.

Cities from Burbank, California, to Bangor, Maine, have already jumped aboard the PC-crazy train.

Perhaps that’s what Democrat voters are looking for, but we’re going to guess this is a net zero gain for Harris.

Let’s not give them any ideas to run with, Sen. Graham.

Why it’s misguided. While leftists like Harris long to rewrite the history of this country, there are still — thankfully — some resources that can set the record straight.

Columbus “was a man ahead of his time, who brought two worlds together,” says the CEO of the Knights of Columbus, Carl Anderson.

“It is a testament to Americans’ commitment to a fair reading of history that the explorer’s popularity has endured despite the unfair and hateful attacks by British propagandists, the Ku Klux Klan, and revisionist academics.”

Then there was one man in particular — Ronald Reagan — who exhibited 1,492 times as many American values throughout his life than Harris or any other Democrats in the field, who made this proclamation about Columbus in 1981:

“He is justly admired as a brilliant navigator, a fearless man of action, a visionary who opened the eyes of an older world to an entirely new one. Above all, he personifies a view of the world that many see as quintessentially American: not merely optimistic, but scornful of the very notion of despair.”

“Quintessentially American”: No wonder Harris wants to see him removed from the nation’s consciousness.
