House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and House Democrats plan to draw up a resolution condemning President Donald Trump’s comments that “progressive Democrats” who are complaining about America are free to leave the country.

Pelosi alleged in a letter to her Democrat caucus that “the president went beyond his own low standards [by] using disgraceful language about members of Congress.”

“Let me be clear, our caucus will continue to forcefully respond to these disgusting attacks,” Pelosi wrote.

“The House cannot allow the president’s characterization of immigrants to our country to stand,” she also said.

In calling out Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and her anti-American “squad” — Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), and Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) — Trump seemed to suggest the group should go fix the countries that people are fleeing before criticizing the United States.

“Our Republican colleagues must join us in condemning the president’s xenophobic tweets,” Pelosi also said in her letter.

Pelosi’s faux outrage is hysterical for two reasons.

Who do you think would win the Presidency?

One, it’s a transparent attempt to placate AOC’s squad after the New York congresswoman accused Pelosi herself of racism.

Will the resolution include language condemning the speaker as well, since Ocasio-Cortez claimed Pelosi engaged in the “singling out of newly elected women of color”?

Two, it’s wholly unnecessary, isn’t it?

Pelosi and the Democrats, in trying to protect Omar just months ago, completely watered down a resolution condemning anti-Semitism by failing to mention that lawmaker by name and including all forms of “hate.”

That resolution should cover everything — so no need for another.

Omar went on to make the blatantly racist comment that America “is not going to be the country of white people.”

Pelosi never condemned those remarks. She didn’t remove Omar from the Foreign Affairs Committee. She never drew up a subsequent resolution. It would seem completely unnecessary to condemn the president.

Republicans should refuse to participate in this sideshow. If Pelosi insists on moving forward, then Republicans should force the resolution to be watered down the way Democrats did. Or call out the squad by adding an addendum to the resolution noting that AOC and her group are “anti-American” and “a bunch of communists.”
