Since winning the White House, President Joe Biden has made it a point to try and do as little work as possible. Any problem that presents itself to the President is quickly passed on to his Vice President Kamala Harris. From COVID-19 response to the Southern Border crisis, Harris has been put in the hot seat more than once. And just like her friend sleepy Joe, she has refrained from doing any real work. That was until California announced a recall election for Governor Gavin Newsom. Now, acting as if she has nothing better to do, Harris confirmed that she would be campaigning alongside Newsom to help him retain his position.

For those that might be unaware, Newsom has been Governor of California since 2019. Although not long, the governor has faced the COVID-19 pandemic, a homelessness crisis, and who could forget about the multi-billion dollar fraud scandal at the state’s unemployment agency. In short, citizens of California are tired of being in lockdown while the elite parade around, unscathed. Even with his current term slated to end in January 2023, voters eagerly want him replaced. So much so that more than 1.7 million verified voters signed a petition to recall the governor, which is far past the required amount.
What’s even more surprising is the fact that if Newsom is recalled, it wouldn’t be the first time California has replaced a sitting, Democratic governor. In 2003, citizens stood up against Democrat Governor Gray Davis and ultimately got him recalled. His replacement was none other than Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Gov. Schwarzenegger would not only replace Davis but would secure another statewide election in 2006, which was the last time California has had a GOP presence in the state. And with Newsom’s recall election taking place on September 14th, the Democratic party is worried that the GOP will once again take claim to a state that prides itself on being progressive.

With so much at stake, especially with the midterms right around the corner, Harris and the Biden Administration know that losing California could spell disaster in the upcoming 2024 Presidential election.
