MAR-A-LAGO, FL – Former President Donald Trump announced on social media outlets Monday night that an FBI raid had taken place at his Mar-a-Lago home.
“These are dark times for our Nation,” Trump said, “as my beautiful home, Mar-A-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, is currently under siege, raided, and occupied by a large group of FBI agents.” The agents apparently even broke open a safe in Trump’s residence.
As Donald Trump was in New York Monday night, his son, Eric Trump, is the one who informed his father of the raid taking place. He told Fox News that the search was said by agents to be concerning “presidential documents.”

More information has been released on the alleged purpose of the raid, with the New York Times reporting that it “appeared to be focused on material that Mr. Trump had brought with him to Mar-a-Lago, his private club and residence, when he left the White House.” According to “a person familiar with their contents.,” the Times said, “Those boxes contained many pages of classified documents.”
An investigation into Trump was opened regarding 15 missing boxes that had been requested to be returned by the National Archives in May of this year, including “items marked as classified national security information.” Reportedly, 15 boxes is what was recovered from the former President’s home during the search.
The Presidential Records Act governs the preservation of White House documents and does not hold much water (as proven by Hillary Clinton’s deletion of 33,000 emails after they were subpoenaed by Congress). The code states, “The United States shall reserve and retain complete ownership, possession, and control of Presidential records; and such records shall be administered in accordance with the provisions of this chapter.” It’s been in effect since 1981, but there is no crime associated with the withholding of the documents.
“Aides to President Biden said they were stunned by the development and learned of it from Twitter,” the NYT said.
Trump has indicated that he feels, however, this is not something about which Biden himself will have been “stunned,” and suggested instead that the search was “prosecutorial misconduct, the weaponization of the Justice System, and an attack by Radical Left Democrats who desperately don’t want me to run for President in 2024, especially based on recent polls, and who will likewise do anything to stop Republicans and Conservatives in the upcoming Midterm Elections.”
Michael Tabman, former head of the FBI’s Minneapolis Field Office, told Fox News that a search of this type is “unprecedented.” He further said, “We just haven’t investigated presidents after they’ve served their term. But it is a huge move by the FBI in that the political sensitivities are clear. It’s obvious that they’re dealing on a very, sort of tenuous political climate when you go out and you investigate a president, especially one who says he may run for office again.”
He also said, “There’s no doubt in my mind that this went all the way to the attorney general before they took [the search warrant] to a judge [for approval].”
The Republican leader of the House, Representative Kevin McCarthy, said he intended to investigate Attorney General Merrick B. Garland in November if the midterm elections put Republicans back in charge of the House.
“Hillary Clinton was allowed to delete and acid wash 33,000 E-mails AFTER they were subpoenaed by Congress,” Trump said in his social media posts. “Absolutely nothing has happened to hold her accountable. She even took antique furniture and other items from the White House.
“I stood up to America’s bureaucratic corruption, I restored power to the people, and truly delivered for our Country, like we have never seen before. The establishment hated it. Now, as they watch my endorsed candidates win big victories and see my dominance in all polls, they are trying to stop me and the Republican Party, once more. The lawlessness, political persecution, and Witch Hunt must be exposed and stopped.”
