Utah Senator Mike Lee has issued a dire warning to Pennsylvania Democrat Bob Casey amidst the chaotic Pennsylvania Senate race.

Lee cautioned that the Senate could refuse to seat Casey if he relies on what Lee labeled as “illegal votes” to secure his victory. The remarks have added fuel to an already volatile situation, as reported by Fox News.

U.S. Sen. Bob Casey speaks at the Electric City Trolley Museum in Scranton on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2024. Seated is Scranton Mayor Paige Cognetti.

“If Bob Casey doesn’t concede, Pennsylvania keeps counting illegal votes, and Casey relies on those votes to claim victory, the Senate could refuse to seat him,” Lee posted on X (formerly Twitter), invoking Article I, Section 5 of the Constitution. This clause gives Congress the power to judge the elections and qualifications of its members.

The high-stakes contest between Casey and Republican challenger Dave McCormick has reached a fever pitch, with McCormick currently leading by about 26,000 votes. However, Pennsylvania’s automatic recount laws, triggered when margins fall under one percentage point, have extended the process, keeping the state — and the nation — on edge.

At the center of the controversy are ballots deemed invalid by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court for lacking required signatures and dates. Despite the court’s decision, election officials in Democratic strongholds like Philadelphia, Bucks, and Montgomery counties have continued to count these questionable ballots.

Bucks County Commissioner Diane Ellis-Marseglia openly defended the defiance of the court order, saying, “People violate laws anytime they want. So, for me, if I violate this law, it’s because I want a court to pay attention. There’s nothing more important than counting votes.”

This brazen attitude has drawn sharp rebukes from Republicans. RNC Chairman Michael Whatley blasted Pennsylvania Democrats for what he described as blatant lawbreaking.

“Democrats in Pennsylvania are brazenly trying to break the law by attempting to count illegal ballots. They are doing this because they want to steal a Senate seat,” Whatley declared.

The Republican National Committee has already filed multiple lawsuits to block the counting of these ballots. Legal experts warn that this unprecedented conflict could escalate into a prolonged legal and political battle, with the Senate’s authority under the Constitution potentially becoming a deciding factor.

Lee has not minced words, calling on Casey to concede before tensions escalate further. “Bob Casey, you’re better than this! It’s time to concede now,” Lee urged in another post on X.

Casey, however, has doubled down, insisting that every vote be counted before determining the race’s outcome. His campaign has yet to respond to calls for comment.

The stakes are monumental. If Casey refuses to concede and continues to rely on contested ballots, the Senate may invoke its constitutional power to rule on his qualifications, an explosive move that could deepen divisions over election integrity nationwide.

As recounts press on and accusations fly, Pennsylvania has become ground zero in the battle to uphold electoral law and safeguard voter confidence, with the nation watching intently to see how this political powder keg will resolve.
