During a lively episode of The View on Wednesday, Whoopi Goldberg sparked controversy by alleging that a Staten Island bakery refused to fulfill her birthday dessert order due to her political views, as reported by Fox News.
Goldberg, known for her outspoken liberal stance, made the claim while celebrating her 69th birthday with Charlotte Russe desserts, a nostalgic treat from her New York childhood.
Goldberg told the audience that the bakery had initially declined the order, citing “oven issues” and other logistical challenges. She suggested the real reason for the refusal was tied to her political beliefs.

“They said that their ovens had gone down, all kinds of stuff, but folks went and got them anyway, which is why I’m not telling you who made them,” Goldberg said, adding that the rejection wasn’t about her gender but because “they did not like my politics.”
Despite the alleged slight, Goldberg encouraged her co-hosts and audience to enjoy the desserts, saying, “But that’s okay because, you know what? Listen, this is my mother’s celebration. Pick these up and celebrate with me and my mom. Thank you everyone for celebrating my birthday today.”

However, the bakery in question, Holtermann’s Bakery—a 145-year-old Staten Island institution—has denied Goldberg’s claims.
Entertainment Weekly identified the shop after examining the packaging of the Charlotte Russe desserts shown on The View. According to the bakery’s owner, there were no political motivations behind the initial hesitation to fulfill Goldberg’s order.
“I didn’t want to make a commitment that I can’t carry through,” the owner stated, referencing technical difficulties that complicated their ability to confirm the order. Ultimately, the bakery delivered, preparing 50 treats that were picked up early Wednesday for the taping of the show.
Since the episode aired, Holtermann’s Bakery has reportedly been inundated with phone calls, with many questioning their side of the story. Staten Island Live reported that the bakery is now fielding a wave of unexpected attention.
Whoopi Goldberg lied, again, claimed a bakery refused her service over leftist views.

While Goldberg chose not to name the bakery on air, the media frenzy surrounding her claim has cast a spotlight on the Staten Island shop. As for Holtermann’s, they’ve stood firm, emphasizing that their decision had nothing to do with politics and everything to do with their ability to meet their high standards.
