The U.S. Senate has confirmed Kash Patel as the next Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation following a contentious vote on Thursday.

Patel, a longtime ally of President Donald Trump, secured confirmation despite near-unanimous opposition from Senate Democrats and resistance from two Republican senators.

The Senate broke the filibuster on Patel’s nomination in a 51-47 vote, clearing the path for his confirmation. Later in the day, Patel was officially confirmed, with only two Republicans, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of Maine, joining Democrats in opposition.

In a surprising move, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky voted in favor of Patel’s confirmation.

Following the vote, Patel issued his first public statement, thanking President Trump and Attorney General Pam Bondi for their support and outlining his priorities as the nation’s top law enforcement official.

“I am honored to be confirmed as the ninth Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation,” Patel wrote on X.

“Thank you to President Trump and Attorney General Bondi for your unwavering confidence and support.”

Patel emphasized his commitment to restoring trust in the FBI, pledging to dismantle what he described as a long-standing two-tiered justice system. He also promised to ensure transparency and accountability within the agency.

“The FBI has a storied legacy—from the ‘G-Men’ to safeguarding our nation in the wake of 9/11. The American people deserve an FBI that is transparent, accountable, and committed to justice,” Patel stated. “The politicization of our justice system has eroded public trust—but that ends today.”

He vowed to support law enforcement officers and rebuild the public’s faith in the agency.

“My mission as Director is clear: let good cops be cops—and rebuild trust in the FBI,” he said. “Working alongside the dedicated men and women of the Bureau and our partners, we will rebuild an FBI the American people can be proud of.”

Patel also issued a strong warning to those who pose a threat to national security.

“And to those who seek to harm Americans—consider this your warning,” he declared.

“We will hunt you down in every corner of this planet.”

He concluded his statement with a decisive call to action: “Mission First. America Always. Let’s get to work.”

Patel’s confirmation marks a major shift in the leadership of the FBI, following years of controversy surrounding the agency’s handling of politically charged investigations.

His tenure is expected to bring significant changes, particularly in how the Bureau addresses allegations of bias and misconduct.

With Patel at the helm, the FBI will now operate under a leadership committed to enforcing the law without political influence—an approach that is certain to face both praise and criticism in the coming years.
