Two major post-speech polls indicate that a majority of Americans approved of President Donald Trump’s address to a joint session of Congress on Tuesday night.

The findings reflect positive reception for both his policy proposals and his leadership, while also highlighting disapproval of disruptive behavior from some Democrat lawmakers.

A CBS News poll surveyed 1,207 adults who watched the speech and found that 76 percent of respondents either “strongly” or “somewhat” approved of Trump’s message, while only 23 percent disapproved.

The speech also resonated emotionally with viewers, as 68 percent said it made them feel “hopeful” and 54 percent felt “proud.”

Meanwhile, 16 percent of respondents reported feeling “angry,” and 27 percent said they were “worried” about the address.

The poll also measured support for key policies President Trump outlined during his speech.

His immigration stance and approach to government spending received 77 percent approval, while 65 percent of respondents backed his policies on tariffs.

Additionally, 73 percent expressed support for his handling of the Ukraine-Russia conflict.

A notable finding from the CBS News poll was public reaction to the removal of Rep. Al Green (D-TX) from the chamber after he interrupted the president.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) ordered Green’s removal, and 76 percent of those polled supported the decision.

The partisan breakdown of the survey consisted of 51 percent Republicans, 27 percent Independents, and 20 percent Democrats.

While the sample included a higher percentage of Republicans, the strong support from Independents suggests that the speech was well received beyond Trump’s base.

A separate CNN poll, conducted among 431 adults who watched the address, showed similar results.

The survey found that 69 percent of respondents had a positive reaction to the speech, compared to 31 percent who reacted negatively.

The poll also indicated that 66 percent of viewers believed Trump’s policies would move the country in the right direction—a five-point increase from a pre-speech survey.

Regarding confidence in President Trump’s leadership, 73 percent of respondents expressed at least some level of confidence.

Specific policy areas also saw strong approval ratings, with 76 percent supporting his immigration policies, 62 percent backing his economic policies, and 61 percent approving of his foreign policy approach.

His stance on tariffs received 56 percent approval.

The CNN poll also showed that Rep. Green’s interruption did not sit well with the public. According to the survey, 80 percent of respondents disapproved of his actions during the speech.

The partisan composition of the CNN survey was 44 percent Republicans, 21 percent Democrats, and 35 percent Independents.

Once again, the strong support from Independents suggests that Trump’s address had a broad appeal.

The poll results indicate that the key issues President Trump highlighted—such as the economy, immigration, and national security—remain priorities for American voters.

His remarks on these topics appear to have strengthened public confidence in his leadership.

The approval ratings also highlight a challenge for Democrats, who faced criticism for their conduct during the speech.

With many voters, including Independents, responding positively to Trump’s message, the political landscape ahead may become increasingly difficult for Democrat lawmakers who continue to oppose the administration’s policies.
