President Donald Trump authorized a military strike against Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen on Saturday, targeting the militia’s military infrastructure.

The operation, executed by U.S. naval forces, aimed to dismantle the Houthis’ capabilities following their continued attacks on American and allied assets in the region.

Trump announced the strikes in a post on Truth Social, stating, “I have ordered the United States Military to launch decisive and powerful Military action against the Houthi terrorists in Yemen.”

He contrasted his approach with that of his predecessor, former President Joe Biden, whom he accused of being “pathetically weak,” allowing the Houthis to continue their attacks unchecked.

“They have waged an unrelenting campaign of piracy, violence, and terrorism against American, and other, ships, aircraft, and drones,” Trump wrote.

The strikes were carried out by the USS Harry S. Truman carrier strike group, along with three Navy destroyers and one cruiser.

The targeted sites in the Yemeni capital of Sanaa included Houthi radar systems, air defense installations, and missile and drone systems.

These assets had been used by the Houthis to threaten international shipping routes in the Red Sea.

Trump emphasized the mission’s goal of protecting American and allied maritime interests.

“Our brave Warfighters are right now carrying out aerial attacks on the terrorists’ bases, leaders, and missile defenses to protect American shipping, air, and naval assets and to restore Navigational Freedom,” he said.

“No terrorist force will stop American commercial and naval vessels from freely sailing the Waterways of the World.”

The military strikes come days after the Houthis declared their intent to continue targeting Israeli vessels in Yemeni waters, a move they claimed was in response to Israel’s blockade of Gaza.

Trump issued a warning to the group and its backers in Tehran, making clear that further aggression would not be tolerated.

“To all Houthi terrorists, YOUR TIME IS UP, AND YOUR ATTACKS MUST STOP, STARTING TODAY. IF THEY DON’T, HELL WILL RAIN DOWN UPON YOU LIKE NOTHING YOU HAVE EVER SEEN BEFORE!” Trump stated.

The Houthis, an Iran-backed faction that controls parts of Yemen, have escalated their attacks in recent months, threatening commercial and military vessels in the Red Sea.

The U.S. response aims to deter further aggression while sending a message to Iran regarding its support for militant proxies in the region.

Initial reports indicate that key Houthi military sites were successfully targeted.

The strikes highlight Trump’s broader strategy of confronting Iranian influence in the Middle East and ensuring the safety of international trade routes.

With tensions in the region already high, the military action is expected to draw international reactions in the coming days.
